Healthy eating has always been an important part of my life. I still remember my grandmother explaining to me how important it is to add lemon juice to the salad to increase the level of vitamin C. So from a very early age, I put emphasis on a healthy and balanced diet, and this interest eventually became a passion. Initially, I was fascinated by the interaction of the dietary components, and how the combination of certain foods have an impact on well-being, revitalizing and energy. This was the cause and the springboard for a career in Nutrition.
I received my BSc in Nutrition from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, next received training in Dietetics in Kantonsspital St. Galen in Switzerland and pursued my MSc in Clinical Nutrition in New York University in the USA. In 2003 I became a Registered Dietitian (RD) and hold my credentials through ongoing education up to now.
Throughout my 10-year career in Greece, I have realized that we need to thorough investigate the basic primary causes of every problem related to health, when we try to solve it through nutrition. So in recent years I have also been dealing with the Psychology of Nutrition. I am an active member of the Panhellenic Association of Dietitians and member of the American Dietetic Association, and continuously invest in knowledge, technology and experience in order to improve as a Nutritionist-Clinical Dietitian.
I am married to attorney Manolis Arsenis, and we have two children, Menelaos and Stefanos. In my spare time, I enjoy sports, participating in Marathon runs, socializing with friends, reading books and traveling.
Training in Nutrition
- In 1997 I graduated from the American College of Thessaloniki, Anatolia, and I continued my education the University of Surrey in the UK, pursuing a degree in the field of Nutrition.
- I graduated in 2001 with a BSc in Nutrition, in the top of my class with one of the top GPA’s (2:1). In my senior year I worked as a research assistant in a project on eating habits of children in the ages of 5-10.
- Looking to expand my knowledge in the field of Nutrition and seeking an innovative, pioneering approach to this science I continued my education in Switzerland. From 1999 to 2000 I interned at Kantonsspital St. Gallen and graduated with distinction.
- After finishing my BSc degree I continued my studies in New York, USA at New York University (NYU). With enthusiasm and dedication to new ideas and experiences from the first month of my stay in the U.S., I worked voluntarily as a nutritionist at the University Hospital of New York, the Florence Nightingale nursing home, the Julliard’s School, while also writing nutrition articles in the NYU newspaper.
- After achieving the position of assistant professor in the Sports Nutrition class, I also taught Nutrition in a public elementary school in New York. In 2003 I completed my graduate studies with honors (3.93 out of 4). Shortly before the end of my graduate studies I worked at the University Hospital of New York in the Department of Liver and Kidney Transplantation as a Clinical Dietitian.
- Upon finishing my contract, I returned to Greece. In April 2004 I opened my private practice in Thessaloniki, which I still successfully operate.
